Tourism Internship Programme

A structured 6-month programme that develops skilled, ethical, and customer-focused tourism professionals through mentorship and real Cape Town operations.

Cape Town Premium Day Toursoffers a professional Tourism Internship Programme designed to give students and graduates meaningful experience across reservations, operations, guiding, digital marketing, and premium guest service — while building South Africa's next generation of tourism talent.

Stipend & support

Tourism diploma students receive R3,500 per month. Tourism degree graduates receive R5,000 per month. An optional performance bonus of up to R1,500 may be awarded at completion for outstanding performance. Reasonable work-related transport expenses may be reimbursed when travel is required for company duties.

Non-cash benefits include mentorship from our Managing Director, practical guiding experience, training on GetYourGuide, Viator and Bokun, reservations and customer service coaching, a certificate of completion, and priority consideration for permanent roles when vacancies arise.

6-month training framework

Week 1 — Company orientation

  • Company history, values, and tourism ethics
  • Customer service excellence and professional conduct
  • Health & safety, confidentiality, and grooming standards
  • Introduction to Cape Town tourism

Month 1 — Reservations & customer service

  • Enquiries, email, telephone, and WhatsApp etiquette
  • Quotations, booking confirmations, and guest communication
  • OTA platforms and CRM basics
  • Practical assignment: handle enquiries under supervision

Month 2 — Tour operations

  • Daily operations, guide and driver scheduling
  • Vehicle preparation, airport transfers, and tour documentation
  • Supplier communication and emergency procedures
  • Practical assignment: coordinate a complete day’s tour

Month 3 — Tour guiding

  • Public speaking, storytelling, and guest engagement
  • Cape Town & South African history
  • Table Mountain, Cape Peninsula, Winelands, and Robben Island
  • Practical assignment: present attractions on live tours

Month 4 — Digital marketing

  • Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and blogging
  • SEO and Google Business Profile
  • Photography and short-form video
  • Practical assignment: weekly social content and blog articles

Month 5 — Sales & business development

  • Upselling, cross-selling, and premium experiences
  • Pricing, quotations, and commission structures
  • Travel agent relationships and OTA optimisation
  • Practical assignment: create premium tour packages

Month 6 — Leadership & business management

  • Business planning and financial basics
  • Complaints, conflict resolution, and staff management
  • Tourism legislation, sustainability, and entrepreneurship
  • Practical assignment: manage selected operations under supervision

Internship outcomes

Graduation & recognition

At the end of the programme we host a Graduation Day — certificates, awards for Best Customer Service, Best Guide, and Most Improved Intern, and professional photos that celebrate achievement and strengthen our brand as a company that invests in people.
